Marie (Gianuzzi) Augustine

Marie (Gianuzzi) Augustine, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 14th, 2025. Marie is survived by her sons Len Augustine and his wife Pam, Gary Caruso and his wife Jill, Keith Augustine and his wife Amy, her daughter Susan Baer and her husband Everett Youngberg, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, who will remember her laughter, her kindness, and the unwavering love she showed every one of them.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, she grew up with a warm spirit and an enthusiasm for life. She attended GAR High School, graduating in 1955. She was known for her friendly smile and easy laugh, traits she carried with her for the rest of her life.

Marie’s life was blessed with family. After welcoming two children in her first marriage, her life took a beautiful turn when she met the love of her life, Len Augustine. Together, they built a family filled with joy, respect, and tenderness, adding two more children to their home. Marie and Len were adorable together, deeply in love, and inseparable.

They often worked together, played cards with friends, and shared a passion for basketball, cheering through every season side by side. First came years rooting for Michael Jordan, then LeBron James, following him from team to team. For the last eight seasons, Marie proudly called herself a Lakers fan, keeping the tradition she and Len began years earlier.

When Len passed away in 2015, Marie demonstrated remarkable strength, courage, and resilience. Despite the profound loss, she chose to begin a new chapter in her life, moving to New York. There she found needed support from her son Len, his wife Pam, and his family. Their kindness made a fulfilling life possible for Marie. In her new apartment, she built new friendships, spent time with family, and continued to find reasons to smile. She enjoyed visiting the senior center where she loved playing bingo, and she was incredible at Scrabble. But it was just being with friends that she treasured most. No matter where she lived or what she faced, Marie brought warmth into every room.

Marie leaves behind a legacy of affection, loyalty, and joy. Her light hasn’t faded. It lives on in the hearts of those fortunate to have known her.

A proud graduate of Wilson Memorial School of Nursing, Jane devoted her life to the care and service of others. Her nursing career spanned decades and left an indelible mark on those she worked with and cared for. As a nurse manager at Willow Point, she not only led with professionalism but also mentored countless new staff members, many of whom became lifelong friends. Even after retiring from full-time work, Jane continued to serve others; at the age of 89, she volunteered at Mercy House, offering comfort care and support to those in need during their most vulnerable moments.

Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband, Anthony “Tony” Putrino; her parents, Matthew and Mary Dinola; her sister Phyllis Lurenz and her husband George; her brother F. Donald Dinola and his wife Elaine; and her niece Marcene Forbes. Despite these losses, Jane remained a pillar of strength for her family. After Tony’s passing, she lovingly cared for her mother Mary until her passing at the remarkable age of 106.

She is survived by her nephew Michael Dinola and his wife Sandy of North Carolina; niece Maria Twyman and her husband Carl of Wanakena, New York, and nephew Matthew Dinola and his wife Lisa of Massachusetts. She also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews who will remember “smiley” Aunt Jane for her warmth and enduring love.

In later years, Jane found joy in the vibrant Hilltop United Methodist Community. There she embraced life fully—playing pinochle and bingo with friends and enjoying trips to Tioga Downs. Her days were filled with laughter, companionship, and a deep sense of gratitude for the life she had built.

Jane’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Her devotion to both faith and family shaped every chapter of her journey. She lived each day with grace and purpose—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, 1905 Watson Boulevard, Endicott, NY 13760. In recognition of her lifelong contributions to nursing, she will be honored by the NY/Binghamton Nurses Honor Guard during the service.

Jane’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hilltop United Methodist Community for providing a fulfilling home in her later years. They also wish to acknowledge the compassionate team at Mercy House for their care during Jane’s final days.
