Edward Ferencik

Edward Ferencik, 96, of Endicott, NY, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, September 27, surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was predeceased by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Mary (Soucy) Ferencik; his parents, Frantisek and Sidonia Ferencik; and brothers and sisters - Louis, Richard, Paul, Joseph, Frank, Emil, John, Timothy, Ethel Rossi and Pauline Melvin.

He is survived by his eight children; Frank Ferencik, John (Julia) Ferencik, Edward, Jr. (Laurie) Ferencik, Mary (Gene) Perry, Susan (Curtis) Parvin, Patti (Tony) Maione, Timothy Ferencik, Theresa (Doug) Pelton; sixteen grandchildren, Laura (Derek) Cordilione, Dan (Bridget) Ferencik, David (Samantha) Ferencik, Emily (Gerald) Pierce, Brittany Ferencik, Ed Jr. (Reana) Ferencik, Robert Ferencik, Thomas Ferencik, Anthony (Katie) Maione, Nicholas Maione, Vince Maione, Christopher (Courtney) Perry, Elizabeth (Vinny) Pardi, Courtney (David) Youst, Jacob (Leah) Parvin, Chelsey (Dennis) Moore, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

Born April 15, 1929, Ed was immensely proud to have been the first baby to be baptized at St. Joseph’s Church in Endicott, where he was an altar server and remained a faithful member throughout his long life.  After growing up in Endicott and serving in the Marines, he attended Champlain College, where he played football and starred on offense, defense, and special teams – never coming off the field during games. He was also on the college boxing team and once beat the New England Golden Gloves champ.  But most importantly, Champlain is where he met the love of his life – Mary.

Married in 1953, they began a life together, raising their family in their Catholic faith.  Ed, like Mary, was devoted to his children and endlessly taught them by example to live in their faith.  His love extended equally to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his constant presence and legacy will live on through them and for generations.

While raising his family, he had a long career as a teacher in the Maine-Endwell School District and painted houses in the summers.  After retiring from teaching, he became a maintenance man for the Bank of New York.  He was also a Catholic faith formation teacher, a peer counselor, a prison minister, a literacy volunteer, and a worker at the St. Ambrose kitchen.  Before meals, he would offer his signature blessing, "May God's blessings of His love and grace be upon you and may He remain forever in your heart."

Ed was the ultimate role model of a man of faith.  He would sometimes return home without socks or a shirt because he had given his to a homeless person, and he often had to rush to his teaching job because he had spent too much time shoveling sidewalks in the early morning hours for his elderly neighbors on Robble Ave.  A member of the Third Order Franciscans, he indeed preached the gospel at all times, and when necessary, he used (beautiful) words.  He would often say, “To do Your will, oh God, is my delight,” while he joyfully served others.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Perry and also the wonderful caregivers at United Methodist Hilltop and Mercy House for their support and comfort.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 3rd, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 207 Hayes Avenue, Endicott.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.  The family will receive friends at St. Joseph's Church, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, kindly consider extending a hand to the homeless as Ed often did, or donations to the Food Pantry, 202 Garfield Ave., Endicott, NY, or to Mercy House, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott, NY 13760.

John Edward “Ed” Neely

John Edward “Ed” Neely of Vestal, NY was called to the Lord unexpectedly on August 19, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Thelma A. and Robert W. “Rip” Neely, and his brother Robert W. Neely III. He is survived by his wife, Chelsea Gavazzi-Neely, his sister Lori  (Joseph) Neely Thorn, his daughter,  Rhiley A. Neely, his grandson Liam A. Zuk, his in-laws, Robert and Christine Gavazzi and his brother-in-law, Todd Gavazzi. Ed was born on 8/24/66 and celebrated his 59th birthday in heaven just 5 days after passing. Ed was the most genuine, loyal, down to earth and hardworking man this world has ever known. He would give the shirt off his back to the people he loved and would be the first to help with anything they needed. Ed was a straight shooter, a man of his word and was never afraid to tell anyone how he felt. He had a heart as big as his mouth, and a laugh and presence that would fill any room. He touched so many people’s lives from his workplace (Vacri Construction), to childhood friends, his friends out in PA and his friends up at the lake in Syracuse. Ed has so many friends that became his “brothers” and he considered all of them family. Ed enjoyed riding through PA on his Harley, spending time on the lake boating and jet skiing and tinkering/rebuilding any machine or vehicle he could get his hands on. He truly was a master of all trades and a MacGyver with anything mechanical. If you didn’t know Ed personally with his deep, raspy voice and muscular, intimidating stature, often being mistaken for “Stone Cold Steve Austin,” you would never guess what a kind, compassionate and thoughtful man he truly was. This side was exposed to its fullest when he met the love of his life, Chelsea, and the two began dating on New Year’s Eve. Within less than two months of dating, the once never interested in marriage man was nervously headed to his future father-in-laws house to ask for his permission to marry his daughter. The unlikely pair were married a year to the day they started dating and have shared a once in a lifetime love story. The once wild, up for anything, risk taker became the most loving, sweet and gentle husband. His life intertwined with hers and he effortlessly became a cherished member of her large family and created a bond that he had so missed since the passing of his father and brother. Their love story on this earth was cut short after a mere 7 years together but their soul bond will last an eternity. We know Ed will be watching over her and all of the many people whose lives he touched from the heavens alongside his father and brother.

Chelsea, his wife, would like to thank Lauren and Steve Huff, Raymond Hunter, Rick Simon, Pat Monaco, Roberto DeVincentis, all of Ed’s friends that have been so supportive from Vestal, PA, Appalachian and Syracuse during this time as well as her own family and friends for helping her navigate through the loss of her soulmate.

There will be a private funeral mass at Sts. John and Andrew Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue in Binghamton, on September 6th @ 10 am. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date where all are welcome to come and celebrate Ed’s life.

Though she was physically small, her personality and the love that She bestowed on all she met was larger than life. In November of 2013, it was determined that Jeana was in bone marrow failure and would need a bone marrow transplant. Her brother Tyson was a perfect match and was her donor.  In anticipation of the hair loss from chemotherapy that would be necessary to ensure the transplant was a success, they both got their heads shaved in solidarity. July 14, 2014, was the day she received her brother’s bone marrow, and was celebrated by her family each year as her “2nd Gift of Life.”  It was during her time at Boston Children’s Hospital for the transplant that Jeana met Taylor Swift, who then became Jeana’s favorite singer of all time.  Jeana was able to attend The Eras Tour 2 years ago with her mom, grandma, and sister, which was one of the highlights of Jeana’s life. Jeana loved attending school and began her school years at T.J. Watson Elementary at Union Endicott Central Schools. She began attending the Broome Tioga BOCES PALS program in 2015 after her bone marrow transplant. Everyone knew and loved Jeana, not just at school, but everywhere she went.  Even the former Superintendent of BOCES, Al Buyck had a close relationship with Jeana, who roasted him at his retirement with her BFF, Tina Anderson.  Tina became more than Jeana’s classroom aide - she was her confidant, best friend, family, and her constant sidekick.  Their deep bond went beyond the walls of the school when she and her husband, Al, would take Jeana for outings to TGI Fridays, to get pedicures, as well as shopping.  Along with Tina, Jeana’s beloved teacher of 7 years held a special place in her heart. Jane Tilleman adored Jeana and loved when she ran to her to get a big hug and Jeana would let her know that she loved her, “So, so much” Jeana also had the unique ability to put Jane in her place when needed. Jeana graduated from the Broome Tioga BOCES PALS program this year in June and received the honor of being voted Prom Queen at her last prom.  She attended The Art of Dance with Miss Judy and earned her 10-year trophy which was a Big honor.  Jeana participated in the Southern Tier Challenger Little League with many of her friends from BOCES from 2015-2019.  A proud, life-long member of The Little People of America, Jeana enjoyed traveling extensively to attend the annual conferences.  She enjoyed being a part of the fashion show, and the dance each evening.  This was a highlight of the conference for Jeana, who always loved a good dance party.  The Little People of America conference was where she found,” her people”, and the complete acceptance of her true peers who were beautiful and wonderfully made just as she was. Jeana loved all things Disney, especially Belle from Beauty and the Beast.  She wore a dress like Belle for both her senior pictures and the prom where she was crowned queen.  She enjoyed traveling to Disney several times throughout the years with her family. Grandma and Papa were able to take her to Disney one last time in December 2023. Her Aunt Kate, Uncle Kurt, and cousins Emma and Tristan joined them. Disney in December was magical - a parade with Santa, snow on Main Street, and one last hug from Belle.

Jeana was pure love and light. She loved her mom and siblings with all her heart. Some of the best moments were when she’d say, “Snuggle me, mama,” or “Snuggle me, sissy,” when she’d want to have a movie night on the couch with her mom and sisters. She loved both of her grandmothers fiercely. Grandma Fifield would often get her off the bus each day, where she was greeted with a big hug and “Did you miss me, Grandma?” She always looked forward to sleepovers at Grandma Whiting’s house, where they did their nails, watched movies, and listened to their favorite music together. Jeana Michelle Whiting was born May 19, 2004, in Johnson City, NY. She is survived by her loving, devoted mother, Jennifer Fifield; a brother, Tyson Whiting and two sisters, Adriana Whiting and Michaela Garren of Endicott, NY; her father, Adam Whiting and two brothers, Casey and Ashton Whiting of Hilton, NY; her grandparents, Kathryn and Neil Fifield of Endicott, NY and Karen and Terry Whiting of Rochester, NY; her aunts and uncles, Nate Fifield and Michelle Myers of Mount Holly, NC; Kate and Kurt Knox of Endicott, NY; John and Alyssa Fifield of Mount Holly, NC; Elizabeth Whiting, Jeff Whiting and Jennifer Tomczyszyn, John and Brenda Whiting, all of Rochester, NY; cousins, Emma and Tristan Knox, Adelyn Fifield, Brett and Hannah Whiting, and numerous friends and extended family.
