Thomas Rocco “Gio” Mastrogiovanni

Thomas Rocco “Gio” Mastrogiovanni, 72, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 22.

Born on October 1, 1953, and raised on the West Side of Binghamton creating lifelong friendships even at a young age, including his “oldest friend” Tom Stefanski. Tom attended Binghamton City schools and graduated from Binghamton Central.

Tom was the beloved son of the late Vito and Rose Mastrogiovanni. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Vito and Ricky, and his loving wife of over 35 years, Nancy.

Tom is survived by his loving sister, Lisa, and brother-in-law Eddie; his sons, Eric (Marcie) and Tommy (Heather); and his cherished grandson, Dominic Rocco. Tom had many brother and sister-in-laws who treated him as one of their own, as well as, many cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Gio spent many years bartending at various establishments throughout the Binghamton area, where his outgoing personality and genuine warmth made it easy for him to form lasting friendships. He had a gift for conversation and a way of making everyone—friends and strangers alike—feel like family.

In his younger years, Gio enjoyed bowling in various leagues, hosting and playing in many poker games, bringing together friends for laughter and good times. He was a passionate sports fan, especially devoted to the New York Yankees, New York Giants, and the Florida Gators. He passed on his love of sports, along with his knowledge of statistics and trivia, to his sons.

Tom was also an avid walker, a dedicated crossword puzzle solver, and a loyal fan of the Game Show Network. Tom always looked forward to his daily trip to Proce Chopper where he would talk to familiar faces he felt became friends. Above all, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others in any way he could, sacrificing things for himself to make sure others had what they needed.

A special thank you to the staff at Absolut Care Center for their kindness and care.

Tom will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home on Wednesday April 1, 2026, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association 59 Court St. Binghamton, NY 13901.
