Daniel N. Kolesar, lovingly known by many as “Dan the Dam Man,” passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, at the age of 82.
Dan was a man who took immense pride in his work and the legacy he built throughout his life. Known for the dams he helped construct and the dedication he brought to his craft, his nickname became a testament to both his skill and the respect he earned from those who worked alongside him. Dan believed in hard work, doing things the right way, and leaving something lasting behind.
Equally important to Dan was his deep commitment to serving his community. He generously gave his time and energy to others, proudly serving as Fire Chief of the East Maine Fire Company and as a member of the Planning Board for the Town of Maine. His leadership, sense of duty, and willingness to step up wherever he was needed made a lasting impact on those around him and the community he cared so deeply about.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dan’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Kolesar, who stood by his side through life’s many chapters. He also leaves behind his loving children, grandchildren, and his cherished great-granddaughter Arianna, whom he affectionately called “The Wee One.” She held a special place in his heart and brought him endless pride and joy.
Dan will be remembered for his strength, his work ethic, his humor, and the deep love he had for his family. The stories he told, the lessons he shared, and the memories he created will live on in all who knew and loved him. His legacy is not only found in the structures he helped build, but in the family he loved and the lives he touched along the way.
A celebration of life will be held at the East Maine Fire Company, 847 East Maine Rd, Johnson City, NY 13790, on March 28th from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, to honor and remember Dan.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
