Anna (Spak) Benek, 94, passed to our Lord on March 11, 2026 after a short illness. Anna was predeceased by Francis, her husband of 64 years, her brother John Spak and her sister Mary Wyskowski.
Anna was born in Dunmore, PA and moved to the town of Maine, NY as a child. She lived and worked on the family farm with her three siblings and her parents, Suzanna and Andrew, who immigrated from Slovakia. Anna was a graduate of Union Endicott, class of 1948. She worked in various businesses in the Binghamton area and managed Frank’s construction business.
Anna enjoyed gardening, knitting, ceramics, thrift sales and carrying on her Slovak cooking and holiday traditions. She worked hard, setting an example for her daughters. She had a quick sense of humor, as recognized in her later years. Finally, Anna will be remembered for her love of her family and for taking great pride in her daughters’ professional careers and grandchildren’s accomplishments.
Anna is survived by her four daughters: Carol Benek, Marlene Benek-Goham, Marianne Benek-Edwards and Susan Benek-Bachman, her eight grandchildren: Christine Harris, Michelle Harris, Connor Goham, Kelcie Sunwood (Goham), Erica Edwards, Nicole Edwards, Jen Bachman, Peter Bachman and by her brother Andrew Spak.
Anna was a long-time member of the parish at Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, NY where a funeral mass will celebrate her life on Wednesday, March 18th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 18th at the church from 10:30-11:00 AM prior to the service.
