Robert Harold Hatter, 78, passed away on Sept 17, 2018 at Wilson Hospital after a very courageous battle with cancer.  He was born May 23, 1940 in Brooklyn NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold Hatter and Mary (Kelly) Hatter, as well as his in-laws, Joseph & Evelyn Scherer. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mercedes (Scherer) Hatter of Newark Valley, and daughters Renee Hook (Doug) of New Milford Connecticut and Kimberly Baron (John) of Endwell New York. He is also survived by his very precious grandchildren, Joshua Hook, Jena Hook, Avery Hook, Zachery Hook, John Scott Baron and Jessica Baron. He is also survived by four sisters, Roberta Macarchick, Eileen (Tom) Maziarz, Karen (John) Lacomis, Linda (Rob) Rava and one brother, Harold (Mary) Hatter.

Bob grew up in Duryea, Pennsylvania where he graduated from high school and Johnson’s Trade School. It was in junior high school where he met the love of his life, Mercedes and they were married September 23, 1961. After their marriage, they moved to New York where they bought their dream house which for them ended up being their house of a lifetime. Bob started out in the toolmaking apprentice program in August of 1960 for IBM. He continued to further his career in many different aspects including management. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and spent 34 years there before retiring. There was nothing more important to him than his family and the time he spent with them. For his grandchildren, there were very few sporting events he missed ranging from sitting in a cold ice rink to the heat of many baseball and softball events. He spent several years vacationing with his family in one of their favorite vacation spots, Alexandria Bay (1000 Islands). It was there that he spent many hours providing boat rides, changing fishing hooks and untangling fishing lines, but always doing so with a smile on his face. He also liked to spend time vacationing in Bethany Beach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine NY on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10AM. Entombment will follow in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell, NY. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in Bob’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL. Memphis, TN 38105-9959. He was the kindest, gentlest, and most caring person you could meet as well as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Many thanks go out to the nurses and staff at Vestal Dialysis where he spent a good many hours.
