Robert Angelo (Moose) Musa

Robert Angelo (Moose) Musa, 94 of Endicott, NY (formerly of Lake Norman, NC) went to be with the Lord, Tuesday June 15, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Dominick and Anna Musa; his sister Florence (Pat) Fiorelli and his sister-in-law Patricia Musa. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years Laura; his daughter Debra Musa-Cross and her husband Philip; his son David Musa and his wife Elsa; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters Dorothy Marconi and Phyllis (George) Koury; his brother Richard Musa; his sisters-in-law Jeri Faggioni, Faye Coonick and Penny Sheehan; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob grew up on the north side of Endicott and worked at Battaglini’s Bakery as a young man before joining the US Navy and serving in World War II. He retired from IBM and was a former member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Morrisville, NC. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus member, Assembly #2417 of Denver, NC and a current member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott, NY. He enjoyed Civil War memorabilia as well as reading maps and volunteering at the North Carolina Visitor’s Center assisting people with directions. He was an avid Purple Martin enthusiast who established and maintained Martin Colonies every year with his friend Dr. Bill Green. He also loved spending time at his brothers cottage in Sylvan Beach, NY. Bob was friendly and outgoing with a great sense of humor, making him the life of the party.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday June 19th at St. Anthony of Padua Church 300 Odell Ave. Endicott, NY at 11:30 AM. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at St. Anthony’s Church on Saturday from 10:30 AM until the time of Mass at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his memory to Mercy House 212 N. Daniel “Born Freedom” Jackson

Daniel “Born Freedom” Jackson, 51 of Endicott, passed away June 9, 2021 at his home. He was born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Daniel was predeceased by his fiancé, Nicole Dyer. He is survived by his father Daniel Clansy (Linda) of College Park, GA.; his mother Roseline Jackson (Leroy) of Endicott, NY.; his son Tyrrell Harper; daughter Shatoya Gibson, both of Brooklyn, NY.; his dog Shooter Jackson; his grandchildren Tremont Weaver, Timothy Robinson and Michael Douglas; his brothers and sisters Anthony Jackson, David Cheeseboro, Rashaun Cheeseboro, Jermaine Cheeseboro, all of Brooklyn, NY, Deshay Chambers (Kenneth) of College Park, GA., Danielle Rice, Diane Cheeseboro, and Patricia Orji, all of Bronx, NY, Janelle Cheeseboro of Endicott, NY, Vera McNeil of Brooklyn, NY, 24 nieces and nephews; special friends Shakir Eldred and Esther Bennett; also 2 aunts and 5 uncles. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, NY and a self employed mechanic.

Hunter D. Hazen

Hunter D. Hazen, 24, hometown son of Endwell, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 5, 2021, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was predeceased by his mother, Jeanne Hazen, in November of 2020. He is survived by his loving family; father Tim, brother Ryan, sister Margaret; and the love of his life Michaela DiLorenzo.

Hunter was a graduate of Maine-Endwell High School, Class of 2015. He was a starting defenseman on the M-E varsity lacrosse team since his freshman year, earning All Section 4 honors and a Division I scholarship to the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was also a veteran of 2 state championship football teams in his junior and senior years, earning all-state linebacker honors.

He continued his education by graduating from the University of Binghamton in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and was a second-year graduate student at the West Virginia University Medical School Doctor of Physical Therapy program in Morgantown, WV. 

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 4:30 PM at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY with the Rev. Rogers Richards, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home on Saturday from 3:00 PM until the time of service at 4:30 PM.

John J. Signorelli

John J. Signorelli, 74 of Newark Valley, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 4th, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony R. and Joan A. Signorelli; his brother-in-law Wayne Hogeboom, and sister-in-law Christina Rice. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Marsha(Feltes) Signorelli; three children Jean C.(Bruce) Spiegel, Anthony J.(Heather) Signorelli, Marco V.(Jessica) Signorelli; four grandchildren Lauren and Sophia Spiegel, Lilyana and Abigail Signorelli; his sister Joan Marie Hogeboom, his brother-in-law Joseph Rice; two aunts Maryann(Robert) Sincavage, Angela Wallan; his nieces Brenda(Edward) Bernhauer, Jill(Carl) Beebe, Lori(John) Kupiec; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

John was a graduate of Union Endicott High School, Class of 1965. He went on to attend Cornell University, graduating in 1969, where he met and married his wife Marsha at Sage Chapel. He earned his Masters at Binghamton University and began his teaching career. John dedicated his life to teaching and coaching, retiring after 32 years from Whitney Point Central School District as a science teacher. John was an entrepreneur his whole life, buying and renovating residential and commercial properties and co-owning and operating Signorelli's Car Washes with his family.

John grew up in Endicott, surrounded by a large, close-knit Italian family. His enjoyment of gardening and winemaking was passed down through his Grandfather and Father and John enjoyed teaching these skills to his sons. John was very connected to his Catholic faith, he was a lover of animals which included the occasional stray pony or calf that moved in, but his love for his dog Shadow was the most special.

John had four active Granddaughters and he loved nothing more than attending their performances, sporting events, and spending time with them at the cottage on Cayuga Lake. His love of adventure and new experiences was evident in the traveling he did with his children; camping, Hawaii, Greece, and Italy. Most recently he accomplished his boyhood dream of becoming a pilot and co-owned his own plane, soaring over the Triple Cities and PA.

John enjoyed working at his businesses and developed many enduring friendships over the years with neighboring business owners and community members. He will be greatly missed by his devoted family, friends, and customers. The family would like to extend gratitude to the Lourdes at Home staff, especially his nurse Sarah. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Dorothy Tarasevich

 Dorothy Tarasevich, 90, died peacefully at home on June 4, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.. Dorothy was born to John and Mary Peregrim on December 26, 1930, on the family farm in Johnsonville, NY. At the age of four, she announced she wanted to be a teacher and toddled off after her older siblings to the local one-room schoolhouse. And never looked back. She graduated from Greenwich High school at 16, Russell Sage College at 20 earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in teaching. She taught English in Warrensburg and Rhinebeck, NY, and then earned a Master of Science degree in Library Science from the State University of New York at Albany.

She was married to her partner-in-adventure, John Tarasevich, for nearly 50 years, raising their four children in Vestal, NY where she continued her career working as a librarian in the Vestal school district for 25 years. Dottie was an avid bridge player, bowler, golfer, and gardener, and phenomenal cook, baker, maker, and crafter of projects large and small. She was an active member of SS. Peter & Paul's Russian Orthodox Church where she often led the kitchen in their annual pierogi making fundraisers but may be better known for exquisite and massive homemade Christmas cookie collection that she generously shared with family friends, and neighbors.

Dottie traveled the world over with her husband and found beauty and joy wherever she went. But New York State — the majesty of the Adirondacks and the magic of New York City and everything in-between—was the place she loved best.  Loving mother, doting Baba, Dottie was the salt of the earth. Known for her welcoming bear hugs, “Aunt Giggle-itis” had a wonderful laugh which she shared easily and often. Dottie was eternally optimistic, gracious, and kind. And filled with gratitude for the incredible life she lived. 

Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, her brothers Frank and John Peregrim, sister Helen Sarich, nieces Susan Krough and Lori Flynn, and her adoring husband, John. She is survived by and will be missed dearly by her brother Joe Peregrim and her children Barbara Tarasevich (Alan Joly), Deborah Tarasevich, David Tarasevich, and Joan Tarasevich (Jim Power), and grandchildren Lemat and MinFa Joly, and Kyra and Cullen Power, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:30 AM from the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott and at 12:00 PM at Sts. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church 210 Hill Ave. Endicott. Burial will be in St. Basil’s Russian Orthodox Cemetery 86 Elm St. Watervliet, NY 12189 on Saturday at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Rev. Alexey Karlgut will hold a Parastas Service Thursday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Cosimo A. DelSanto

Cosimo A. DelSanto, 77 of Endicott, NY, passed away Monday June 7, 2021 after a short illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Teresa (Bucci) DelSanto; his brothers, James P. DelSanto I, and James P. DelSanto II; his sister Angeline (Joseph) Catanzaro; his niece, Judy Anne Griffith. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rita (VanAuken) DelSanto; two sons, Mike (Victoria) DelSanto and Nicholas DelSanto; three grandchildren, Shawn, Stephen and Michael DelSanto; his niece, Mary Anne (Gerald) Serbonich and Joseph Catanzro, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Marcella (Dan) View and Winifred (Jerry) Agan; also several great nieces, nephews and dear friends.

He was a graduate of Union Endicott High School, Class of 1962. He was a four year Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving 3 years at Otis Air Force Base in Cape Cod working security and was on the Presidential Honor Guard. He served his last year in Pleiku, Vietnam. He started his career at Midstate Litho and later co-owned Carr Printing from 1979-1989. In 1990 he opened Cos’ Corner in the Midtown Mall in Binghamton. He was the founding owner and operator of Close Quarters in Endicott from 1991-1995. In 1996 he established Cos’ Tap Service and retired in 2003 to travel and enjoy life with his wife, Rita. He was a member of the VFW Post 1371, Owego, The American Legion Post 1700, Endicott, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Endicott, The Endicott Elks, The American Carpatho Russian Citizens Club, Endicott and The Duca Degli Abruzzi Lodge #443, Order Sons of Italy in America, where he was instrumental in the establishment and operation of its Friday Lunch Program as well as chairing and volunteering for many other events.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 701 W. Main St. Endicott, NY. Entombment will follow in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell, NY. David J. Hayes

David J. Hayes of Endwell, age 58, passed away unexpectedly on April 28, 2021. David is survived by his beloved wife, Ellen, daughter, Rebecca Hayes and stepson, Ryan Sharpe, siblings: Robert Hayes, Manassas, VA, Jon and Colleen Hayes, East Brunswick, NJ and Tom and Janet Keys, Nolensville, TN. Nephew- Alan Keys, Nieces- Catherine (Michael) McCarthy, Michelle (Michael) Todisco, Allison Keys, Victoria Hayes and Kelly Hayes. Grandnephew, Michael McCarthy and grandniece Delaney McCarthy. Several Sister and Brother in laws (Norton Family). He was predeceased by his parents Clinton and Roberta Hayes, Brother- Dennis Hayes and sister in law- Mary Hayes.

David was a graduate of Maine Endwell Senior High and SUNY Binghamton. He worked in the Insurance Industry. David was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend and will be greatly missed. David loved all sports including the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco 49ers. He also loved to play golf. Watching sports with his daughter was a great pastime. David had a great sense of humor and a smile that would light up the room. He was also very generous. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Round Top, Endicott NY, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.. Bernard Daniel O’Doherty

Westering home and a song in the air

Light in the eye and it’s goodbye to care

Bernard Daniel O’Doherty of Ireland and Endicott, NY, died on May 23rd, 2021, survived by his wife Julie Mundt, his sons Kevin and Brian, a collection of much-cherished family and friends, and two comfort kitties.

Bernie was a camera whisperer, music maker, 11th-hour poet, and creator of many magical memories for a whole bunch of lucky children. He loved surprising people with whatever might delight them: The Wiggly Way and Wiggly House, novelty flashlights, personalized piano compositions, and culinary treats (always artistically presented). Most of all he gave his attention and his love. 

He leaves behind numerous contributions to the family lexicon (rambunxination, obnoxed, Frassenfresser, kerplunkt, entwazzled, schnozwangled, arse tartles, j’agree, and his unique use of flummoxed), lots of crumbs from all the times he “[didn’t] need a plate,” and exactly one joke:

What’s the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish wake? There’s one less drunk at the wake.

 Some of Bernie and Julie’s favorite people who had to hear that joke…a lot…are the ones they would most like to thank: Dr. Keith Nichols, a veritable prince among men; Dr. Kathleen McGinley, Colleen, Sarah, and the whole Broome Urology team; Dr. George Varsos and the entire Lourdes Radiology team; Dr. Jonathan Kloss and Kathryn Wilczewski, NP, of Broome Oncology; Dr. Jerome Mikloucich, Dr. Alan DeMaine, Megan Peters, and Beth Paramore of Lourdes Palliative Medicine; and every sweet person at Lourdes, too numerous to name, who cared for Bernie with warmth and kindness over the years. Their diligence and compassion made a depressing situation infinitely more bearable.

So many people showed up for Bernie when he needed it most. His siblings Eamonn, Cahir, Muredach, Brenda, and Fergal traversed oceans and continents to visit him, sang him songs through WhatsApp, emailed and texted, and called from the other side of the world. Cousin Rosa and husband Richard video chatted and kept a candle burning for him every day in Donegal. And Bernie’s beloved Kevin brought him the gift of peace and a rescue dog named Bessie, drawing out of Bernie the last real smiles that would light up his whole face.  

The final part of this journey went way too fast but left an unpayable debt of gratitude for the heroes who eased Bernie’s last weeks and days. Bernie so much appreciated Tristyn, Aubrey, Sarah, and everyone who came to help at home from Lourdes Hospice and all the earth angels who were there for him (and Julie) round the clock the six days before his death. If you can’t arrange to die with the poets at the Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, Italy, the second-best choice must surely be at Mercy House of the Southern Tier in Endicott, NY.

Minnie Louise Sisco

Minnie Louise Sisco, our beloved “Pete”, mother, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother went to be with the Lord, passing away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.  Born 1925 and raised in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, she is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Charles “Chuck” Sisco, her parents Bill and Ada Lovelady of Smithville, Ark, and all 6 of her siblings; Billy Ray Lovelady, Thelma Jean Sinkler-Donley, Charles Richard “Mickey” Lovelady, Laveta Mae Luther-Whitmire, Buddy Joe Lovelady and Bobby Earl Lovelady.  She is survived by her daughters Linda (Frank) Wells of Whitney Point, NY and Michele (John) Henkel of Endicott, NY. Five grandchildren, Carrie (Cecil) Balentine of Smithville, Ar Amy Wells of Endicott, NY Robin (Lance) Price of Virgil, NY and Amanda and Adam Henkel of Endicott, NY. 6 great-grandchildren Kristina Balentine, Ashley Price, Zachary Price, Emily Price, Jedidiah Henkel Preston, and Theodore John Henkel Preston.  All of her many nieces and nephews, special to her all, were remembered and spoken of almost daily.  Our Lovelady family is together again and the reunion is joyous.

Pete and Chuck met in Walnut Ridge, Ark when Chuck was stationed there with the Army Air Corps.  They married on April Fool’s Day in 1946 and Chuck brought his southern bride home to the great white north, settling in New Milford, Pennsylvania.  Never having seen snow before, her first winter was a shock to her soul and she forever longed to return to the humid, hot heat of Arkansas.  Pete never lost her southern drawl and became a Yankee only by residence, and our little family was raised in Johnson City and Binghamton before their retirement, upon which they lived happily on the red clay land of her home in Smithville, Ark; returned once again to the fold of her beloved family and siblings.  Upon Chuck’s passing in 2002, Momma returned home to us in NY state where she was able to once again be with her beloved grandbabies and daughters.  In her life’s journey, she made many friends with her infectious laugh, good humor, and friendliness.  

Pete grew up picking cotton with her siblings on her parent’s cotton farm in rural Arkansas.  I would call her a bit of a renaissance woman.  Having left school before graduating, she was a well-read woman who like to read the Encyclopedia for fun.  She had an avid interest in UFOs, ghost stories, and Native American history; having come from the land where the Osage lived and enjoyed collecting arrowheads from her property.  She knew about the history of our family to the history of our nation, to know all the local family names of the area from reading the obituaries.   A farmer’s daughter, she loved growing vegetables and flowers alike.  She and Chuck spent many an hour traveling around the hills and valleys of our states.  She passed on her love of country music and the musical gene in our family.  Our Momma was one of a kind and she will be sorely missed but to paraphrase Johnny Cash; the memory of her legacy will live on. “She’ll be around, she’ll always be around, and around and around and around.”  

 The family wishes to give special thanks to the entire nursing staff team at Ideal Senior Living where Pete has lived for the past several years.  She was well cared for and loved by her aides.  The jobs they do are too numerous and mostly thankless but please know we know no facility could run half as well as it does without you and we thank you All for everything you do daily for all of our elderly in care.

Frank DiLuzio

Frank DiLuzio, 84 of Unadilla, NY, passed away suddenly on Tuesday May 18, 2021. He was predeceased by his son Joseph DiLuzio in 2016. He is survived by six children, Frank DiLuzio, Teresa Curtis, Mark DiLuzio, Susan Gaylord, Douglas DiLuzio and John DiLuzio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.

He was a retired employee of the New York State Department of Transportation. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who will be dearly missed. Craig G. Maye

Craig G. Maye, 71, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Johnson City, NY passed away unexpectedly, Saturday May 15, 2021, at his home. He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Anna Maye; his uncle Ralph Daehnke. He is survived by his loving wife Debbie with whom he shared 38 wonderful years; his son MacArthur Maye; his step-daughters Jennifer (James) Howland and Jessica Johnson; his step-grandchildren Victoria, Cynthia, Savanah and James, Jr.; his step-great-granddaughter Aniylah; his sister Bonnie Maye and her husband Douglas Schwarz; his niece Juliana Schwarz; his aunt Irene Daehnke; his cousins Kirk (Janie) Daehnke, Kim (Mee Son Chung) Daehnke and Amy (Tom) Krupa.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, Endicott and a former member of its board and the Johnson City Elks Club. Craig was a five time cancer survivor who fought to enjoy life and his family. He enjoyed fishing, war gaming and playing poker. He was always the life of the party and always had a joke to tell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church 1907 Jenkins St. Endicott, NY. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Shirley Zaharris, of Vestal, NY, passed away Sunday May 16, 2021 at her home. She was predeceased by her companion Charles Pickert; her parents Bruce and Marion Dean; her son James Zaharris; her brothers Lloyd and Raymond Dean; her sister Lorraine Hammond; and the father of her children, Edward Zaharris. Patricia A. (Pat) Sullivan

Patricia A. (Pat) Sullivan, of Endwell, passed away on May 10th while at Mercy House. Pat was predeceased by her parents Joe and Nita Theodore; her brother, Gary; her brother-in-law, Ray Lubniewski; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Jane Sullivan. She is survived by her husband Dennis and her children, Robin and Dan (Tracy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brian (Arianna), Kaitlyn and her husband Matt, John (Brittany) and Megan (Shawn); her great granddaughter, Sophia; her sisters, Kay Lubniewski, Nancy Cullings and her husband Pat; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Chris and Betty Sullivan; her nieces and nephews, Raymond, Missy (Dave), Jason, Karen (Reeves), Matt (Sue), Andrew, Tim, Wendy, Erin, Shannon; several great nieces and great nephews; her cousins, Mike (Pat), Skip (Jan); her dog Mollie. Pat also leaves behind her best friend Patty Leighton. They would spend hours on the phone discussing families and solving the world’s problems.

Pat was a paralegal and law office manager for many years before she “retired” to take care of her grandkids, a decision that she never regretted. Pat was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who loved her family unconditionally. God help the person who dared to say anything bad about any of them. She never missed one of her kids or grandkids sporting events, concerts, musicals or anything else they were involved in. They were the center of her life. She drove the grandkids crazy with her 20 questions but she asked them because she loved them so much and wanted nothing bad to happen to them that she couldn’t fix. She was so proud of all their accomplishments and would brag about them endlessly to anyone who would listen. Pat and Sully met when he was coaching CYO Basketball and she was coaching CYO Cheerleading. She reluctantly accepted a date with him to the CYO Commissioners Ball in 1977. For Sully it was love at first sight but Pat took a little more convincing. They were married a year later on St. Patrick’s Day. She followed him through his CYO coaching career and when he became the CYO Basketball Director she became his unofficial assistant fielding many phone calls and giving advice and answers. Those answers and advice were always right. By necessity, Pat became a huge Notre Dame Football and St. Bonaventure Basketball fan. She loved her annual trips to South Bend and other places around the country to watch the Fighting Irish. She hated cold weather and was less thrilled about winter trips to Olean to watch Bonaventure Basketball but she made them anyway. She reluctantly followed Sully to concerts to hear his favorite 60’s bands, but by the end of the shows she was singing and clapping, saying “I know all these songs”. For many years she was a devoted fan of the local hockey teams. She loved watching football on Sunday afternoon and the Yankees, as long as they were winning. Pat was a cheerleading coach at her home parish of St. Cyril and later at Our Lady of Angels after moving to Endwell. When she finished her coaching career she served as a judge for CYO Cheerleading competitions. She was the #1 fan of St. Joseph’s Basketball and Cheerleading programs when her grandkids were involved there. Pat was an excellent cook and baker who maintained a spotless, well decorated home that drew compliments from all who visited. After spending a month decorating the house, her always perfect Christmas Tree and baking all kinds of goodies, Christmas Eve was her time to shine. She would gather the entire family, and anyone else who showed up around her. All of the kids loved to tease Grandma and Aunt Pad on that night and any other chance they got. She pretended to get mad but loved it. Although sometimes stubborn and opinionated, Pat will be missed by all who knew her and those whose lives she touched.

The family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 13th and on  Friday morning May 14th from 9 AM until 9:45 AM at the Church of the Holy Family prior to Pat’s Funeral Mass at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. A sincere thank you to Fr. Clarence and the staff at Mercy House who were wonderful to Pat during her stay there. Robert (Bob) Battista

Robert (Bob) Battista, 76, of Johnson City, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021, at Lourdes Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Gerry Battista; his son, Michael Battista (Lystra); his daughter; Amy Battista; his stepdaughter, Geri Woodruff; his grandchildren, Derek Battista, Amber White, Austin Battista, Madison Battista, Emily Battista and Jonathan Kiley; his great-granddaughter, Lillie White; his sister, Ruth Ann Klenchik; also several nephews, cousins and friends.

He was a retired employee of Rasco Shoes, Johnson City, an avid New York Mets Fan and a devoted grandfather. At Bob’s request there will be no formal funeral services. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association PO Box 7023 Merrifield, VA 22116-7023

Olga Kotasek

Olga Kotasek, 101 of Endicott, passed away peacefully, Saturday May 1, 2021 at Mercy House with her loving family at her side. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Michael Kotasek; her son, Emil Kotasek; her grandsons, Tommy and Chris Ciotoli; her sisters, Mary (George) Klimek and Anna (John) Yuricek; her nephew, Ron Yuricek. She is survived by her son, Michael (Beverly) Kotasek ; her loving and devoted daughter, Patty (Mike) Ciotoli; her daughter-in-law, Barbara Kotasek; her grandchildren, Kimmie (Jeff) Carpenter, Casey Carpenter, Justin, Brittney, Chloe and Allie Ann Carpenter, Mikey Parker, Mason Kotasek, Jeanine Sapp, Brian and Kevin Kotasek; her nieces, Margurite (Anthony) Anechiarico and Marie Yuricek; her sisters-in-law, Genevie Wheatley and Emily Mrva; her special friend and caregiver, Marie English; also many nieces, nephews and friends who she dearly loved.

Olga was immensely proud of her family and leaves them many beautiful memories. Sebastian (Sam) Rossi

Sebastian (Sam) Rossi, 82 of Endicott, passed away peacefully Thursday April 29, 2021 at his home. He was predeceased by his parents, Luigi and Francesca Rossi and his brother-in-law, Matteo Tiberia. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eve (Battaglini) Rossi; two daughters, Francine (Robert) Killian and Arleen Rossi; his grandson, Matthew Killian; two sisters, Lydia Tiberia and Antoinette (Donato) Roberto; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Endicott, a member of the Order Sons of Italy in America, Binghamton Lodge #487 and the Northside Sausage Club. He was the owner of Rossi’s Pizza and Market, Endicott for over 30 years. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of UHS and Guthrie for the compassionate care given to Sam.

Irene Hranek

Irene Hranek, 92, of Endicott, NY passed away peacefully on April 24, 2021.  She was known to many as Grammy, and will be remembered by all who knew her as a wonderfully warm and generous person.Irene graduated with honors from Union - Endicott High School in 1946.  She was a senior class officer and participated in numerous clubs.  Her family will remember her most for her love of baking, especially eggie cookies, apple pie and French toast, playing Uno at the kitchen table, serving fresh raspberries with sugar sitting on the front porch, and calling her kids home with her exceptionally loud whistle.  She loved to shop and was an amazing bargain hunter, and if you tried to do the jumble in the newspaper faster than she, you would likely lose.  She knew the weekly menu at “Nya Nya’s” (Jimmy Roma's) and was a regular for pot roast sandwiches and chili. She made many friends working at Valley Design, and continued those friendships into her later years. She was married to Tony for 53 years.  Together they had a zest for travel, visiting family in Czechoslovakia, taking many family trips cross country, spending summers at Sodus Point, and one of the best, their trip to Hawaii.  They enjoyed many picnics with the Czechoslovak Moravian Club and listening to polkas. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Elizabeth Wanechek, her husband Anthony Hranek, sisters and brothers in law Betty and Frank Sevcik, Lillian and William Antal, and grandson Eric Pinto.  She is survived by her daughter Kathleen and husband John LaShier, her son, Gary and wife Tara Hranek, grandchildren Melissa and husband Mike Heller, Nicole and husband Eric Johnston, Brienne and husband Marcus Harris, Scott Hranek, Stefan Hranek, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 The family would like to thank all the staff at Ideal Senior Living Center for their compassionate care, especially the 5th floor assisted living and dining room staff, Tulip Court, and Violet Court. The family will receive friends at the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott, NY on Wednesday morning from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM when funeral services will begin, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church 207 Hayes Ave. Endicott, NY. Shirley Wyak

Shirley Wyak, 86, of Endicott passed away on April 21, 2021.  She was predeceased by her parents J. Benjamin and Anna Chura, her sister Lucille Phelps and niece Andrea Perry. She is survived by her daughter Courtney Most, her grandsons Nicholas and Christopher Most, all of Endwell, her sister Sandra Perry of NJ, her sister-in-law Carol (Dick) Lehr. Moravia NY, also several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Shirley was a graduate from Union Endicott High School class of 1952 and Cortland College.  She was a kindergarten teacher at George W. Johnson for over 35 years and after that speech and language screening (10+ years).  She absolutely loved her job and hated to leave.  Nothing gave her more joy than being somewhere and hear “Mrs. Wyak”!  Those of you that had her as a teacher it meant the world to her when you said hello and talked about your kindergarten memories.  After losing her husband Steve of 60 years, over 3 years ago, a part of her was missing.  They did everything together. They purchased a cottage when they were only 26 years old that changed theirs, and so many others, lives forever. They spent most of their time there.  She was able to spend her summers there with her daughter Courtney and once retired she and her husband would enjoy their summers, weekends and holidays there with their true gems…grandsons, Nick and Chris.  She was her daughter and grandsons life and now losing both Baba and Papa leaves a big void that can never ever be filled. She was so very proud of her family. She and her husband loved to dance.  They are jitterbugging to their hearts content right now.  She loved her family and lake family, snowmobiling, selling at antique shows with her sister, casinos, her antique shops and her Jonathan’s Crew.  She especially loved going on cruises and of course we can’t forget her love for Frank Sinatra.  She was president of the Alzheimer’s Association for many years.  She was one very classy lady who lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed by so many.

Madelyn A. Kushner

Madelyn A. Kushner of Endicott, born to Mary and John Kushner on August 16, 1945 passed away on April 21, 2021 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Irene (Joe) Petrolle; her aunt and uncle, Sue and Joe Kushner; her aunt, Ann D’Angelo; her cousins, Gary Kushner and Barbara (Kushner) Dailey. Madelyn graduated from Union-Endicott High School, class of 1963. She was employed for 30 years at the Giant Market in West Corners. Madelyn was like a sister to her loving Kushner cousins. Those who survive are, Karen Silverman, Kathy (John) Boll, David (Laurene) Kushner, Joe (Judy) Kushner, Brian (Patty) Kushner and Jim Kushner. Also many other cousins survive, especially Diana (Marty) Fiehl and her cousins children, Kristin (Boll) Davis, JB Boll, Kyra Schnauber, Mark Silverman, Laura Gibson, Glenn Schnauber, Nicole Kushner, Aimee Weiner, Victoria Whitcomb and James Kushner. Others who will miss Madelyn are; David (Mary) Petrolle and family, Rosalie Salamida; her dear friend, Barbara Fiacco.
