Josephine Traglia

IMG_0023.jpg

Josephine Traglia, Endwell, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021.   She was predeceased by her one true love, Patrick who died in 2006 ending their 52-year marriage.  She is survived by her son, Louis and partner Barbara, her daughter and son-in-law Gina and Alex Hay, grandchildren Mary Traglia,  Nicholas Traglia and Emily and Eric Doe and in laws Joe and Elaine D’Angelo.  Also left behind to miss her are many dear friends as well as nieces and nephews, her beloved cat Sweetie Pie and grand-doggies Lainey and Roxie.  The family thanks all her neighbors, especially Tony and Anna Egitto, Matt and Julie Gallagher, Chuck and Nancy Demaree and notably, Joe and Jeanne Pastore, all of whom helped her maintain her independence and allowed her to stay in her beloved home after the death of her husband.

Josephine was born in Sicily in 1931 and moved to Brooklyn with her family at the age of 5, where she met her lifelong friend Marge Ventrice.  Our parents were married in 1954 and eventually moved to Tarrytown NY and then Rochester MN, where again she found many new friends, the best of whom were Ken and Harriet Pfaff.   She often said the 10 years in Minnesota were the best of her life.  After moving to Endwell she started her own business, Memory Box Antiques, where she honed her haggling skills for 28 years.

Jo was good for giving advice and telling you her opinion. You certainly always knew where she stood.  While she never attained her dream of attending college, she was widely read, leaving behind an extensive personal library, and she always had an active and inquisitive mind.

She and Pat traveled the world during their years together and after he died, she continued to travel with her family. She especially enjoyed Aruba and over the years took many trips to the island hosting family and friends.

Her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren and always had fun when she was with the whole family.

She truly enjoyed the slots at the casino (especially when she won), her flowers and back patio in the summer, the Friday lunch bunch and entertaining in her home.  Life for her was to be lived, and she left nothing on the table.

Services will be Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Church of the Holy Family in Endwell.  Family will receive visitors 10 to 11 AM at the church, with mass at 11 AM.  The service can be viewed on line at WWW.holyfamilyendwell.com  In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St Jude’s,501 St Jude place, Memphis TN 38105 or Willows Wings Animal Sanctuary, 30 Kay road, Endicott NY 13760.

John Leskow

leskowpic20210113_15420993.jpg

John Leskow, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 9, 2021, at Robert Packer Hospital.  He was met at Heaven’s gate by his bride of 72 years, Mary Leskow, and a multitude of family and friends who had passed before him.

John was born on April 19, 1926, in Olean, NY, to Nicholas and Kathryn Leskow. He learned to play the accordion at a young age and became an accomplished accordion player who played regularly with other band members at the Fountains Pavilion in the late ‘30s and early ‘40s. It was there that he first laid eyes on Mary and emphatically told a band member, “I’m going to marry that girl someday.”  He did just that, and in 1948 the handsome guy from Endicott married the beautiful girl from Binghamton.  Together they had 4 children.  John loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren unconditionally. He never missed an opportunity to support their activities and attend their events. He took pride in being past President of the Endwell Little League.

Mary and John enjoyed playing the “slots” and traveled near and far to find just the right machine that would pay out more than they put in! John wasn’t always as lucky as his wife Mary but took delight in watching Mary “cash-out” her winnings! Together they loved soaking up the sun on beaches in Wildwood, NJ, and Daytona Beach, FL.

In the early ‘40s, John and his twin brother George worked as butchers at the A&P grocery store. It was during that time that he was called to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II.  While serving, he was called on to take shorthand during the Nuremberg Trials.  Upon his return from the service, he joined the Endicott American Legion, where he remained a life-long member. He was also fortunate to begin his 38-year career at IBM from which he retired in 1986 and was a member of IBM’s Quarter Century Club.

He is predeceased by his parents, mother-in-law and father-in-law Mary and Michael Vanca, twin brother, George (Nellie), sister Martha (John) Vlkovic, Paul and Sophie Gofran, brother-in-law Gilbert Beach, Gerald Hlopko, George (Mille) Vanca, Warren Hall, and nephews Jeff and Brian Hall.

He is survived by his four children Donna (Luigi) Fata, Gary (Susan), Mary Kay (Tom), and Thomas (Amy). He is grandpa to Travis (Kristen) Fata, Nicolas (Jenna) Fata, Kristen (Casey) Coons, Justin (Ali) Leskow, Aaron Leskow, and Hannah Leskow.

The family has continued to grow with 5 great-grandchildren Maximus, Lillian, Nico, Nina Fata and Henry John Coons, and 2 more on the way.

He is also survived by his sister Julia Hall, sisters-in-law Helen Hlopko and Anne Beach, daughter-in-law, Diane Leskow, nieces and nephews David (Anne) Leskow, Jim Hall, Lori (Bill) Baynes, Sharon (John) Castelli, Marci Beach, Jerry (Jane) Hlopko, James Hlopko, Vickie (John) Griffen, Michael (Heather) Vanca, special niece, Viera (John) Mancini, friend, and traveling companion, Melinda Smith, as well as many great-nieces and nephews.

God speed a faithful and loyal servant.  We will miss you, Dad, but we are comforted to know you are now with the angels and Mom, your beloved wife, Mary.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mark Corey, Family Practice, and Jennifer Hughey, NP, Cardiology at the Guthrie Clinic, and the staff of the 7th and 8th floor of Robert Packer Hospital for their compassionate care.

Due to Covid-19 circumstances, a private service will be held.  The family will hold a celebration of John’s life at a future date as circumstances permit.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Leskow may be made to Catholic Charities of Broome County or The Church of the Holy Family.

Jay Leon Pisani

jpisani20201219_13583704.jpeg

In this Holy Season of Advent, our Sovereign, Compassionate Lord Jesus has called forth His most beloved son, Jay Leon Pisani, on Thursday, December 17, 2020 to be with Him forever in the splendor of Heaven. Jay is now joyfully reunited with his beloved parents, Joseph and Josephine Pisani and his mother-in-law, Anna M. Pezzuti and many other relatives who have predeceased him.

My beloved and precious husband Jay, was an intelligent, caring, talented, unique, loving and witty man. He was an electrician by trade which he loved and was excellent at. God blessed him with an excellent memory and he possessed an exceptional talent for fixing anything. If he had trouble finding a solution, he would troubleshoot the problem in his mind until he figured it out, which gave him great joy. Jay also loved music, especially jazz, cars, planes, trains, culinary food and techniques, and if something interested him, he would research it intensely. Jay was blessed with an original, witty and commanding sense of humor that was creative and hilarious and could capture a room full of people with laughter. He most especially possessed a generous and compassionate heart and his hands were full of meritorious deeds of kindness and mercy. He was full of thoughtful advice for anyone who would listen, especially his beloved nephews and nieces. Jay practiced his Catholic faith by living the Golden Rule: Love God and your neighbor, assisted at holy mass weekly (until COVID), and prayed the rosary with his wife almost every night in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. He was a devoted husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, co-worker, neighbor, cousin, nephew and trusted confidante. Jay was loved by many. A beautiful light had gone forth from the earth and now shines brightly in the heavenlies.

I would like to thank the good Samaritan and the Union Volunteer Emergency Squad for assisting my husband in his greatest time of need. Our beloved, precious Jay will be intensely missed by all, especially his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Anna L. Pisani; his beloved brother, James (Lani) Pisani; brothers-in-law, Edward (Debra) Kolanda, Joseph (Carol) Pezzuti; sisters-in-law, Maria Pezzuti, Grace Pezzuti (Jim Funai), Lisa (John) Carlucci; beloved nephews, Johua (Katy) Turner, Jason Kolanda, Vincenzo Carlucci and his much loved nieces, Danelle (Rosebud) Kolanda and Jessica (Matt) Pilkington and many cousins, relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church 300 Odell Ave. Endicott, NY on Wednesday, December 23rd at 11:00 AM. Calling hours will be private and for immediate family only. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jay’s name can be made to Union Volunteer Emergency Squad or St. Anthony’s Food Pantry.

Funeral services have been postponed due to the recent snow storm and will be rescheduled as soon as possible. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church.
